Jack White recalled Amy Winehouse's 2008 Glastonbury show – at which she punched a fan – during his band The Dead Weather's performance at the festival today (June 26).

The band were playing on the Pyramid Stage this afternoon when White told the audience he had watched Winehouse famously strike the fan as she performed on the same stage two years ago.

"It wasn't too long ago I saw Amy Winehouse give someone a smack here for someone touching her hair," he said. "It's the same for Baby Ruthless [The Dead Weather singer Alison Mosshart's pseudonym] – if you touch her hair you'll get a smack."

The Dead Weather played songs from both their debut album 'Horehound' and the recent follow-up 'Sea Of Cowards', with White spending most of the set playing the drums.

He did, however, venture to the front of the stage to sing 'You Just Can't Win', earning cheers from the crowd, who were watching his fifth appearance at the event, having first played in 2002 with The White Stripes.

"Alright Glastonbury, that's a true story," he said after playing the song. He added, noting the scorching weather, "You've got sun instead of rain!"

White finally donned a guitar to play 'Will There Be Enough Water?', sharing a microphone with Mosshart during the closing number.

The Dead Weather played:

'60 Feet Tall'
'Hang You From The Heavens'
'You Just Can't Win'
'So Far From Your Weapon'
'I Cut Like A Buffalo'
'No Horse'
'The Difference Between Us'
'Hustle And Cuss'
'Blue Blood Blues'
'Die By The Drop'
'Treat Me Like Your Mother'
'Will There Be Enough Water?'

What does everyone think of the new album? I'm amazed by it. I think it's superb, decidedly dark and very inspiring. I think it's better than Horehound. I love Blue blood blues, The difference between us, Looking at the invisible man and Old Mary [Sorry, I just named half the album]. Are we all loving Sea of Cowards?
